As you may now, San Diego Police Officer Jonathan “JD” DeGuzman was killed in the line of duty on July 28, 2016. Officer DeGuzman was hired as a San Diego Police Officer on October 20, 2000. He served honorably for 16 years during which time he worked as a Patrol Officer in various commands before being assigned to the Gang Suppression Team in 2006. As an officer, “JD” received numerous awards including seven Commanding Officer citations, a Meritorious Service Award and a Purple Heart Award. Officer DeGuzman is survived by his wife and two children.
Viewings will be held at Corpus Christi Church, 450 Corral Canyon Road Bonita, CA 91902 on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 and Wednesday, August 3, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
A Catholic church mass will take place on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 1100 hours, also at Corpus Christi Church, located 450 Corral Canyon Road Bonita, CA 91902.
A Law Enforcement Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 1100 hours. The service will be conducted at the Shadow Mountain Community Church located at 2100 Greenfield Drive, El Cajon, CA 92019. Staging for the procession to the memorial services will begin at 0800 hours at Qualcomm Stadium with a scheduled departure time of 0900 hours.
A procession will then follow the memorial service to the interment at Glen Abbey Memorial Park located at 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, 91902. All Officers attending the funeral in uniform shall wear their Class “A” uniform.
As tragic as this may all be, I encourage you all to attend any or all of the scheduled events as a way to show your respect for our fallen brother and to show our support for all the law enforcement men and woman who make the ultimate sacrifice day in and day out. Thank you all and God bless.
Donations: The San Diego Police Officers Association has established a fund for Officer DeGuzman’s family. Donations can be mailed to the San Diego Police Officers Association, 8388 Vickers Street, San Diego, CA 92111. Checks can be made payable to the San Diego Police Officers Association (SDPOA). Please write “Officer Jonathan DeGuzman” in the memo line. All donations will go directly to the family. The SDPOA is also accepting online donations HERE. Please indicate “Officer Jonathan DeGuzman” in the notes of your online donation.
Flowers: For those wishing to provide flower arrangements for the service, please schedule delivery from 9:00 – 10:00am. Please contact the church directly for any specific concerns. Flowers delivered to Corpus Christi Catholic Church will be transferred to Shadow Mountain Community Church for the Friday service.
